iPad for Small Business - Ten Benefits

How can your small business benefit from the Apple iPad, iPad 2 and the newly launched iPad? Can you use the Apple iPad for doing real business? Is the iPad the best thing to happen to small business since sliced bread?

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is the top innovator of the Innovation Index!

Apple iPad is a serious device for small business owners, entrepreneurs and startups, owing to the built-in tools and services available on the latest iOS, the iCloud, available small business applications, and real mobility.

I am a small business owner myself, working on my latest startup Ogoing, the fastest growing small business social network (which you can access from your iPad browser). I have been using the iPad since 2010 for both my small business and personal needs. Here are the ten benefits of using the iPad for my small business:

1. Communicating. I have connected both my company emails, and also my personal email through the iPad. iPad allows you to choose several default email providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, Exchange, etc. If you have a company email like me, you can setup by going to Other email. It just takes five minutes to setup your email. Once setup, using emails on the iPad is an absolute delight! It is very easy to send and receive emails, copy and paste images from your iPad, documents or web, and communicate with your contacts just about anywhere! I use emails for my business needs by sending product bug reports using the snapshot feature (just hold down the Power switch and Home button at the same time), getting status on the latest release, sharing important tasks and follow up action items, non-profit business board meetings, marketing my small business, answering support questions from customers, and staying in touch with my family and friends (on my personal email)! It is as easy as 1-2-3 to take a photograph on your iPad 2 or the New iPad, and email that photo to your friends and family directly from the Photo app. You can also share that photo as an iMessage or attach it to your Twitter or social networks update (including Ogoing). iPad email is a critical communication tool for every small business owner!

2. Note taking. Thanks to the iPad, I see myself taking more notes at meetings and conferences, adding more interesting information to review and follow up, jotting down inspiring ideas as they happen, copying and sharing quotes of famous people, writing down past experiences, and even noting things that I may otherwise forget. I love the built-in iPad Notes notes taker which allows you to type notes using the virtual keyboard, and I use it quite frequently. You can write notes in both portrait or landscape mode (I prefer the landscape mode since it allows you to have the keyboard spread out across the whole screen). I also use the small business apps Notability and Penultimate where you can write notes in your own handwriting, and even add photos and cool things to your notes. For instance, I have used Notability to take a screen shot of a product feature, and added my comments to that. And all I have to do next is email that as a PDF doc to my team. It is that easy to take notes, annotate, and share notes with your team or family. Sometimes, I have taken notes while in a meeting about a personal matter that I suddenly thought of. Has the iPad made me smarter and more organized? Definitely (to the more organized part) :) And the new iCloud allows me to share my notes with all my linked iOS devices! No more forgetting where you made that note... It's everywhere!

3. Reading. The iPad contains the addictive iBooks reader for browsing eBooks, articles, PDFs. The latest iBooks reader is interactive! Not only can you read static books, but also experience books that are engaging and interactive with multi-touch! Some of the latest eBooks have immersing simulations, beautiful videos, detailed photos, and even built-in quizzes and tests (for those using eBooks for education). Am I reading more due to my iPad? Absolutely. I have pretty much stopped reading regular newspapers, books and periodicals (except when I am visiting doctors' offices). The readability of the text on the iBooks reader is visually appealing (retina display), and perhaps creates more memory retention. The next time you get an email attachment that is a PDF file, just open it with the iBooks reader (instead of reading it within your email). You will see the difference. Another benefit: By opening this email document in the iBooks reader, you automatically add it to your collection of PDFs. And you can quickly build a selection of PDF documents that you can read later, anytime. When you read eBooks that you buy or download from the iTunes iBookstore (over 700,000 eBooks), you get more features such as highlighting, note taking, sharing, bookmarking, search, dictionary and even voiceover (have the iPad read that book to you). Did you know that the iCloud allows you to share all your eBooks to all your linked iOS devices such as iPhone, iPod touch, and the Macs? So if you buy your new eBook on the iPad, you can read it later on your iPhone as well!

4. Browsing. Whether you have the iPad with 3G or 4G LTE, or just Wi-Fi, you can browse the Internet everywhere using the built-in Safari browser. You can browse any website. One thing I noticed that on the latest iPad, the websites appear visually striking and amazing! Everything appears so clear and concise! It's like you are practically there at the website! Thanks to the retina display, the websites with photos and videos appear dramatically better! What that means is that you enjoy browsing various websites for your work, research and education. Searching and finding that useful nugget of information online is no longer a chore, rather a delight on your new iPad. There is a Reader icon that allows you to simply read the article as is without anything else! The browser is fast, has multiple tabs, remembers your seven day history, and makes pages built for the regular website appear great! Safari browser allows you add bookmarks, add websites to your reading list, add shortcuts to websites on your home screen, email a link to the current page you are browsing, and even Tweet and Print your web page (through AirPrint). What I do often though is copy and paste something I love from a website to my iPad Notes, and then review this later! If you like a photo on a website, you can simply press it down a bit longer, and the iPad allows you to save this photo to your Photos album or copy it! The iCloud allows you to share your Reading list and bookmarks to your linked iOS devices. No more fumbling around and thinking hard about that site that you saw earlier in the day.

5. Writing. The iPad is not just for reading. It is fast becoming a useful tool for writing and creating new documents. There are many apps available for writing and editing documents, presentations, spreadsheets and more! Apple provides its own suite of applications for these called Pages, Keynote and Numbers respectively (which you can purchase from the App store). I have been using Pages on my iPad. First thing I noticed is how easy it is to use Pages! It has the essential features of a word processor, but removes the complexities that you don't need. And Pages launches super fast! Using Pages, I can create great looking documents with visuals, media, tables, charts, shapes and more, open and edit Microsoft Office Word documents, and email my documents in Pages format, Word format or PDF format. I can also print my Pages documents using AirPrint, share documents using iWork.com, iTunes, iDisk and WebDAV. If you have the iCloud enabled, all the documents are automatically backed up on the cloud, and available for use anytime, and any linked iOS device! If you are planning to write serious documents, I recommend buying an external wireless keyboard for your iPad. In essence, the iPad can become your document writer! I bought the keyboard which puts the iPad in Portrait mode for typing, on the built-in stand. So do you really need a separate laptop or desktop for your small business? Perhaps not!

6. Seeing. Video is everywhere! Websites, YouTube, Hulu, Facebook, and even eBooks! But that is the video you watch on your iPad. This works great on the iPad! However, the iPad 2 and the New iPad have built-in FaceTime Video calling. Now you can show yourself to your co-workers, friends, and family, and talk to them live in real-time. Not only can they hear what you are saying, but also see how you are doing! Using FaceTime, you can also share what you see... perhaps you are showing a new office, a potential home for a new buyer, an outdoors shopping center, or the beautiful nature! FaceTime does require a fast WiFi connection, and both you and the participant need to have an Apple ID. So the next time you are communicating with your co-worker, go FaceTime! And see the difference! You might be surprised how much more effective a video call is versus just a phone call. Video calling for your small business can be a serious business tool. The person receiving the video does not need to have an iPad. They can be on an iPhone, iPod touch with Video, or a Mac. Video calling is great for family use also. Share you and your family with your parents, grand parents, relatives who are far away, or friends! iPad with FaceTime Video makes this possible in a heartbeat.

7. Essentials. No small business is complete without essential tools such as Calendar, Reminders, Contacts, and Messages. You know where I am going here. The iPad includes all these tools for your increased productivity. Calendar to keep up and on time with your meetings, appointments, anniversaries, birthdays, conferences: What I particularly like is the alerts that I can setup multiple alerts to help remind me of upcoming appointments. And since I use the iCloud, if I setup a meeting on my iPad, it is automatically available on my iPhone. Same thing with alerts! iPad Reminders ensures that you don't miss out on your To-Dos, Deadlines, Goals and Tasks! It is a very handy tool. I use it remind me of what's important! Contacts is great since on the one hand all my contacts are synchronized across all my iOS devices; on the other hand, Contacts allows me to add vital info to my contacts such as birthdays, websites, nicknames, etc. It is quite easy to search for your Contacts, and when you are emailing someone, you can simply type in a few characters of your contact's name, and it brings up their complete name instantly! But what about messages? The latest iPad on the latest iOS includes free iMessage. Which means, you can fire away your text messages to anyone who owns an iOS 5 product including an iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Isn't that cool? No more spending money on your texts. I don't text! But now I use iMessage with my family members and with contacts who use iOS products. Can the iMessage be used for groups? Absolutely! You can send messages to multiple contacts at once! Can the iMessage include photos, videos, contacts, locations? Yes! You can attach them with your iMessage. iMessage is really a multimedia messaging tool which can be essential for your small business!

8. Doing. Is there more? If you are a small business in a particular industry, there are many business apps available to help you do business! For instance, Roambi turns your data into secure mobile dashboards and views up-to-the-minute company information. WebEx for iPad takes mobile web conferencing to the next level. It includes real-time two-way group video on iPad. Thus whoever is speaking takes center stage, and everyone stays on the same page! Meetings and Videos, all in one! Do you like to draw floorplans with your fingers? Check out TOTAL. It is a fully customizable field app for appraisers, and makes data gathering and onsite inspections simple. You can map your subject and sync QuickLists to your computer to eliminate redundant note-taking. Need an app for brainstorming and sharing? How about a whiteboarding app that allows you to share ideas with your co-workers by creating diagrams, process charts, website wireframes using easy multi-touch gestures. Check out OmniGraffle! The truth is that for any industry, there is an iPad app available today! Simply go to the App store, and do a search by category or vertical. There are apps available for education (have you heard of this amazing app, Star Walk? If you just point your iPad skyward, it identifies every star, constellation, planet, and satellite you see!),entertainment (I use Netflix, and it works great! On the latest iPad, the movies look incredible), games (I love Temple Run, Need for Speed, Angry Birds), lifestyle, finance, music (check out the GarageBand which is now available on the iPad. I use Pandora to listen to music while I work), networking, news, productivity, sports, travel, and more! If you are a retail business, there are many apps available to take payments from your customers via your iPad.

9. Learning. No, you don't need a university education to use your iPad. However, on your iPad, you can bring the university and professional education to you! iTunes University allows you, the small business owner and entrepreneur, to review and check out specific business classes, lectures, videos and tutorials to help you build and grow your business. If you lack a particular skill, say on "how to be a great boss", there is a whole video series available on the iTunes U. If you want to be a better businessman, there are videos and workshops for free! There is a lot of free, high quality education available for you on contracting, consulting, economics, entrepreneurship, e-commerce, finance, leadership, management, marketing, and much more to access anytime, anywhere, on your schedule! Using the iTunes University, you can become a smarter small business owner today!

10. Portability. The biggest reason I use the iPad though could be its portability. How easy it is to move it around and move around with it, how much lightweight it is, and and how you can carry it practically everywhere! My iPad can be found on my living room sofa, on the dining table, next to the TV, on the bed, on the side table, on the office desk, on the office chair, in my office bag, in the back seat of the car, in the front passenger seat of the car, in my hands, at my customer's office, in the lobby, at the conference, in my customer's hands, in the plane, on the train, you get the picture! The iPad is so portable, it can be found just about anywhere!

Still not convinced that the iPad can become the must-have Small Business device? Give me a shout, and I would be to happy to show you how you can use your new iPad! Best of all, the iPad is very easy to use!

The New iPad Review

I went to the Apple Store in Irvine Spectrum to check out the New iPad... Here are my observations (I own the original iPad, and have used the iPad 2 which I bought for my father):

1. I love the display... This is indeed the most beautiful display.  I checked out several high resolution photographs, and zoomed in several times to see whether the tiniest of details can be seen without getting pixelated. The New iPad portrays images with incredible depth. If you want to browse, preview or interact with high-res photos, art, images and more, the New iPad is the best tablet out there.

2. I love the camera... I captured some photos and also shot some videos.  The photos are looking way better than the iPad 2 and even better than my iPhone 4. The videos are shot in HD, and look great also. When you playback HD videos, two black bands appear on the top and the bottom; this happens because of the screen aspect ratio. Frankly, if you love taking photos and videos of your family, outdoors, and just about anything, this is a great reason to buy the New iPad.

3. I love the performance... The New iPad is super fast, compared to the iPad and iPad 2. I would like to compare results from the speed test, but I could see that the apps load faster, perform better, and appear great owing to the high resolution. I downloaded the latest interactive iBook on Earth, and the experience of reading it and interacting with it was fast and awesome!

4. I love the apps... especially the ones that can now help you create and work with content, edit photos and videos, and even music i.e. iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand. The productivity apps also performed well including Pages, Keynote and Numbers. Can the New iPad finally become a content creation device, and not just content viewing? This could be the clincher for Apple.

5. I love the connectivity... The 4G LTE and built in cellular antennas make this New iPad a Global iPad. The promise of being able to connect to any network in the world, whether its 4G or 3G, and on various technologies makes this iPad a blessing for world travelers. And the icing on the cake: You can use your iPad as a personal hotspot! So now you can connect your other devices over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB, and use the Internet at will.

There is a lot to love in the New iPad. The big question is whether to upgrade or not from your existing iPads? If you can find a buyer for your old iPad or can give it to a family member or friend (or even donate it to a school), by all means do that!! This New iPad is the most amazing iPad yet!!

Apple's New iPad is one of its best innovations, both for education and business, and is poised to expand the creativity and innovation among students and adults alike. It is quite possibly the funnest gadget!

The Incredible Apple

Yesterday, Apple did the unthinkable, yet again! Apple blew away the revenue and earnings by a long shot. Apple announced record quarterly sales of over $28.57 billion, and profits of $7.31 billion ( Apple, what are you planning to do with all that cash? Perhaps you can buy out a country or two! )

Apple sold 20.34 million iPhones in the quarter, representing 142 percent unit growth over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 9.25 million iPads during the quarter, a 183 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. The Company sold 3.95 million Macs during the quarter, a 14 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. Apple sold 7.54 million iPods, a 20 percent unit decline from the year-ago quarter.

“We’re thrilled to deliver our best quarter ever, with revenue up 82 percent and profits up 125 percent,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Right now, we’re very focused and excited about bringing iOS 5 and iCloud to our users this fall.” (This means, iPhone 5 is coming this Fall as well!)

Apple Destroys Estimates AND the Stock Is Still Cheap! Here's what stood out:
* Apple's Cash on Hand grew by 16% to $76.2 billion. The number works out to roughly $81 per share. Were they so inclined, Apple could write checks for Netflix (NFLX) and Ebay (EBAY) combined and still remain liquid.
* Apple's revenue growth is actually accelerating.
* The company beat EPS estimates by over 30% and revenue forecasts by 15%. These numbers speak ill of the people analyzing Apple but are jaw-dropping nonetheless.
* The stock continues to perform yet somehow gets cheaper; trading at over 18x earnings yesterday and in the vicinity of a 15 P/E today.

Cramer on Wednesday raised his price target on Apple from $400 to $500 a share. Yet at the $500 level, the technology stock will be selling at just 11.5 times his estimates for next fiscal year's earnings, only three quarters of what the average company in the S&P 500 index sells for.
To Cramer, Apple is a great example of why capitalism is worth cheering for. Unfortunately, Apple also puts U.S. leaders to shame because all they can do is bicker. "The United States of Apple?" Cramer said, "Now that's a place Cramericans can call home."

Apple Earnings Call: "We are very excited to be launching Mac OS X Lion tomorrow. The Lion includes more than 250 new features such as a multi-touch gestures, system wide support for full screen apps, Mission Control, which is an innovative view of everything running on your Mac and much more."
"iPhone continues to be adopted as the standard across the enterprise with 91% of the Fortune 500 deployed or testing the device, up from 88% last quarter. We're also seeing great growth in scale worldwide. Today, 57% of Global 500 companies are testing or deploying iPhone, fueled by strong employee demand and opportunities for custom App development. Some examples of Global 500 companies supporting iPhones on their corporate networks, include AXA, Credit Agricole, Nestlé, Dow Chemical, GlaxoSmithKline, SUPERVALU and Comcast."
"We are also seeing strong adoption internationally with 47% of Global 500 companies testing or deploying iPad. In the 15 months since iPad has shipped, we've seen iPads used in the enterprise in ways we could have never imagined. Companies like Boston Scientific, Xerox and Salesforce.com are deploying thousands of iPads and revolutionize in how their sales teams engage their customers. iPad is being used inside the country's top hospitals like HCA and Cedars-Sinai and in retail at Nordstrom and at Esteé Lauder's Clinique counters. General Electric, SAP and Standard Charter have developed internal Apps for training, currency tracking and business process management to help make employees even more productive. And Alaska Airlines and American Airlines are using the iPad in cockpit to replace paper-based navigational and reference information pilots carry with him on every flight."
- Peter Oppenheimer, Apple CFO
"China was very key to our results. As a reminder, we define Greater China as Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Year-over-year, it was up over 6x and the revenue was approximately $3.8 billion during the quarter and that makes the year-to-date numbers through the 3 quarters that we've had thus far around $8.8 billion. And so this has been a substantial opportunity for Apple and I firmly believe that we're just scratching the surface right now. I think there is an incredible opportunity for Apple there." - Timothy Cook, Apple COO

Bottomline:
Apple dropped a huge sales bomb again! Apple's quarterly revenue and earnings explosion is just the beginning! Expect Apple to deliver successive quarters of record sales and earnings in the foreseeable future. About the only thing that can bring Apple down is supplier constraints. But Apple has planned well in this department as well; Apple's inventory is healthy, and current generation products are getting rolled out without any delays. As schools resume in Fall, and as we get closer to the holiday season, Apple revenue machine will accelerate faster! A $40 billion holiday quarter is indeed a possibility... Apple makes more money internationally than in the U.S.; 62% of sales came from international operations in the latest quarter. This means that Apple has become a true global company, and has even less dependency on local market going forward. It also means that the world has more buying power and buys more Apple products thatn U.S. does. This is both a challenge and opportunity for Apple going forward. Apple now has to design products that cater to international buyers. And assuming that the world is still warming up to Apple, the global demand for future Apple products will be very high. As the U.S. economy improves, Apple will derive even more sales locally, giving its quarterly revenue numbers bigger boost! Apple is a winner no matter what!
When a billion cell phones are sold every year worldwide, if Apple is able to increase its marketshare to 10%, this would translate to 100 million iPhone annual sales. Apple just sold over 20 million iPhones. Expect a 25 million iPhone quarter in the near future. As for the iPad, there are many choice tablets available. However, at $499, iPad 2 offers an amazing mix of features and functionality in one incredible machine. Can Apple sell 15 million iPads next quarter? Quite possibly. Apple just announced the latest MacBook Air at starting price of $999. It's faster, ships with Mac OS X Lion, has Flash storage, backlit keyboard, camera and most everything you need as your entry notebook. This will help accelerate the sales of MacBooks in the coming quarters. Finally, the all important iOS 5 and iCloud are coming this year... along with the launch of iPhone 5. Apple has the whole world in awe with its product wizardry! The Incredible Magic of Apple!

Apple Must Offer iPhone 4 Customers Worthy Solution for Antenna Problem

Consumer Reports, the leading authority on independent testing & recommendations, has spoken:

Lab tests: Why Consumer Reports can't recommend the iPhone 4

Lab test: Apple iPhone 4 design defect confirmed
It's official. Consumer Reports' engineers have just completed testing the iPhone 4, and have confirmed that there is a problem with its reception. When your finger or hand touches a spot on the phone's lower left side—an easy thing, especially for lefties—the signal can significantly degrade enough to cause you to lose your connection altogether if you're in an area with a weak signal. Due to this problem, we can't recommend the iPhone 4.
Apple & Steve Jobs : This is a wakeup call!! Either you ignore the problem, provide a temporary solution or create a real solution that befits the most innovative company and your reputation!

In the absence of a real solution offered by Apple, should customers accept the temporary duct tape solution offered by Consumer Reports:
We did, however, find an affordable solution for suffering iPhone 4 users: Cover the antenna gap with a piece of duct tape or another thick, non-conductive material. It may not be pretty, but it works. We also expect that using a case would remedy the problem. We'll test a few cases this week and report back.

Come on Apple! It's about time you offer a meaningful solution that customers would appreciate... and have come to know Apple for! Apple iPhone 4 has amazing design innovations, and is possibly the best smartphone in the marketplace today... Why not cement your position for good, and offer something that customers will respect Apple for?

Apple Must Offer iPhone 4 Customers A Worthy Solution for Antenna Problem! NOW!!

Apple iPad ignites the Ebook readers market

"Yankee Group forecasts that the already hot United States ebook reader market is about to catch fire, sparking from $1.3 billion in revenue in 2010 to $2.5 billion by 2013.

What’s the key finding of the research and why?Yankee Group forecasts sales of eReader devices to rise from 6 million units in 2010 to a little over 19 million units sold in 2013.
Revenue from the sale of these devices will similarly catch fire, sparking from $1.3 billion in revenue in 2010 to $2.5 billion by 2013.
Additionally, by 2013 the U.S. ebook reader sales will reach 19.2 million, a CAGR of 34 percent, with 6 million ebook readers sold in 2010 alone.
The U.S. installed base of ebook readers will hit over 36 million, up from an installed base of 9 million by 2011.
Half of all consumers who indicate interest in buying an ebook reader will have bought one already, so device makers should act quickly.
"Our forecast is built around a model that factors in the effects of price elasticity, network effects and adoption risk and is loosely based on product diffusion models developed by Everett Rogers and Frank Bass." - Dmitriy Molchanov, an analyst at Yankee Group, regarding the research firm’s new study, “Yankee Group’s US EBook Reader Forecast: Kindling a Fire”

Apple (AAPL) launched the iPad on April 3, 2010... at unbelievable pricing:
"With iPad, you get all our latest innovations. And all our most advanced technologies. In one of the most revolutionary products we’ve ever created. All at a price that’s well within reach." Apple
iPad Wi-Fi 16 GB starts at $499
iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 16GB starts at $629

Pre-orders were brisk for Apple's new iPad
Neither recession nor gadget overload shall slow the mania surrounding the introduction of Apple's iPad mobile computer.
On Friday, the first day that buyers could pre-order the device (it arrives in stores next month), Apple racked up an estimated 91,000 sales in just the first six hours of availability, putting temporarily to rest the Internet's persistent "iPad fail" meme. Analysts predict the first-year sales could reach 5 million.
Engadget.com asked its tech-savvy readers whether they planned to buy an iPad, which starts at $499. The result: Nearly 19 percent of 60,000 respondents said yes; 65 percent were negative; and 16 percent clicked "What's an iPad?"

Apple Sells One Million iPads

CUPERTINO, California—May 3, 2010—Apple® today announced that it sold its one millionth iPad™ on Friday, just 28 days after its introduction on April 3. iPad users have already downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore.
“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
New Survey Shows Huge Wave of Apple iPad Demand Striking Amazon
A ChangeWave survey of 3,171 consumers – conducted in the aftermath of that Apple announcement (Feb 1-10) – shows a huge wave of pre-launch demand for the iPad and offers key evidence that the Apple tablet will have a major impact on the e-Reader, laptop and home entertainment markets.
Moreover, the survey shows Amazon (AMZN) and its e-Reader competitors are poised to take a big hit early on from the iPad's entry into their market.
The survey shows the Apple iPad is now poised to capture an astonishing 40% of the e-Reader market going forward in the first 90 days after its launch.

Bottomline:
According to Yankee Group, there will be at least 6 million eBook readers sold in 2010 (this survey was done before the Apple iPad announcement & launch). However, this is assuming the eBook reader market grows according to the baseline forecasts by Yankee. In all likelihood, the eBook readers market will grow much faster, rather ignite exponentially, with the introduction of iPad.
If Apple takes 40% of the U.S. market share, Apple will sell at least 2.4 million iPads in 2010 - new business worth at least $1.2 billion in the first year of launch - WOW! Apple has already sold 1 million new iPads. Apple creates a new category of devices that combine eBook readers, multi-media players, web browsers, music players, productivity apps, e-mail, business & entertainment apps & more. Apple is poised to sell at least 4 million iPads in 2010 (Apple will begin selling iPads in 9 countries in May), thereby creating yet another successful, disruptive aka "killer innovation"! Only Apple knows best how to create new businesses that grow from 0 to $1 billion plus in less than one year... this is simply AMAZING!
What does this mean for Amazon & Kindle? Would iPad relegate Kindle to second place, and deliver a knock-out punch? If history is a guide (and considering what Apple did with iPod and then with iPhone), Amazon has got to be worried... What will be Amazon's answer to the iPad? Kindle 3 better be good!

Can HP Slate challenge the Apple iPad?

HP Slate versus Apple iPadCourtesy: Engadget

By comparing head to head on technology, HP Slate appears to have the lead over Apple iPad. However, when I create a new comparison matrix between HP Slate & Apple iPad based on key technology areas and the WOW factors, a different view emerges:

HP SlateApple iPad
Ease-of-useMaybeYes
Intuitive
Touch Screen
MaybeYes
SimplicityMaybeYes
Fun to UseMaybeYes
eBook ReaderMaybeYes
Video & Music
Player
YesYes
Video CameraYesNo
Web BrowsingYesYes
Great AppsMaybeYes
Millions of
Users & fans
NoYes
ConnectivityYesNo
Battery LifeShortLong
WOW FACTORNoYes

Bottomline:

Apple sold over 300,000 iPads on the first day of launch... "Apple also announced that iPad users downloaded over one million apps from Apple’s App Store and over 250,000 ebooks from its iBookstore during the first day."

“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world—it’s going to be a game changer,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”

What this means to Apple's topline is new product revenue in the billions (yes, you read it right!) from Apple iPad sales in 2010 (check Apple iPad will ignite the eBook market...) but there's more... Apple will generate new product revenue for the apps and eBooks... which could be another billion dollar business in the making!

All this means is an uphill climb for HP Slate... and it's all going to come down to ease-of-use, fun to use, intuitiveness and the coolness factor (and not the bells & whistles)! HP Slate doesn't have the X-Factor that an Apple iPad has. On the other hand, HP Slate can make a killing in the Netbook market... but that's not the game Apple iPad is playing. Can Mark Hurd provide the oomph that HP Slate needs to become successful overnight? He better be calling Steve Jobs...

Apple hits a home run with latest earnings - Learn how Apple innovates at the Innovation Bootcamp

In the latest quarterly earnings announced today, Apple earned the highest in its storied history, and grew the most - while maintaining the margins. An amazing feat considering the slowing economy and dismal holiday sales that have impacted major retailers. How did Apple do this? How did Apple turnaround the iPod business and had the highest sales of iPod in a quarter? Over 22 million iPods. Although iPhone quarterly sales slowed somewhat, Apple still sold more than 13 million iPhones in 2008 - besting Apple Innovation blog's estimate of 12 million iPhones. Why are Steve Jobs and Timothy Cook more confident about the future of Apple?
